Joss Whedon, Marvel's famed screenwriter responsible for the smash hit movie The Avengers, has revealed that he is working on an adaptation of the group of heroes' film for the small screen. According to Whedon, he is already engaged in the pilot chapter of the series and the project is being called “SHIELD” - which in Portuguese means “Human Superintendence of Intervention, Espionage, Logistics and Deterrence”.

According to a report from the Mercury News website, the news does not intend to follow the events presented during the feature film. The series will focus on the secret agency itself, directed by the mysterious and well-articulated Nick Fury (lived in the film by actor Samuel L. Jackson).

Apparently, the Hollywood Reporter has reported that Whedon will be partnering with his brother Jed Whedon and his wife Maurissa Tancharoen to put together the pilot episode of the series. If the competing director's agenda permits, he intends to be responsible for directing this first chapter, since the production of the work is scheduled to begin "as soon as possible."

In time, the upcoming series is due to air on ABC, which has announced it is developing another production based on another powerful Marvel hero: the Incredible Hulk.
