Crazy architectural project proposes to hang building on an asteroid

Who wouldn't want the privilege of living in a house with amazing views? But would you dare live in a suspended building over 30 kilometers high? What's more, this building would be hanging from an asteroid - yes, dear reader, an asteroid ! - in orbit 50, 000 kilometers from the Earth's surface. Only. Just imagine the difficulty in going out to buy a simple bagel in the bakery!

How to do?

And who came up with this crazy idea? Architects at New York's Clouds Architecture Office studio, and believe me, they thought a lot about this brilliant project. It's obviously a purely speculative concept and, according to Bec Crew of Science Alert, the team was inspired by plans by space agencies and private companies to capture asteroids and bring them closer to our planet so that they can be explored in the near future.

Analemma Tower

The building was named Analemma Tower and, as described in the project, would be suspended by an asteroid orbiting the Earth 50, 000 kilometers away. Already the building itself would be positioned about 32 thousand meters from the surface and would have commercial segments, residential and other activities. Check out:

Very very high

More precisely, the tower would be placed in a geosynchronous orbit, which means that its rotation period would be exactly the same as Earth's rotation period. These orbits are usually reverse to the equator line, form an angle known as “orbit inclination, ” and objects in this orbit spend half their time in the Northern Hemisphere and half in the South.

The tower would be "hung" on an asteroid brought near Earth

Thus, for a surface observer, the building would return to its initial position after approximately 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds. Moreover, as the architects explained, the tower would travel over the Northern and Southern Hemispheres throughout the day, tracing a huge “8” on the surface like a giant pendulum. The slowest speeds of movement would be at the upper and lower ends of this "eighth", with the slowest stride taking place over New York City. See the image below for a better understanding:

Look at the eighth there

But ... 30 thousand meters?

One problem identified by architects is that humans do not handle such extreme altitudes very well. This is because at over 30, 000 meters we would be exposed to freezing temperatures - hitting -40 ° C - not to mention that at this altitude we would be in the stratosphere where we would not be able to breathe without wearing pressurized clothing.

The view would be nice!

Therefore, to enter or leave the tower would need to wear special clothes, and staying inside the building would not be a big problem. After all, don't astronauts live well on the International Space Station? The project does not make clear how transportation of supplies and people would be carried out, but with regard to leaving the building, the architects suggested using parachutes. That simple.

Wanna go out? If you play!

As you can imagine, the likelihood that such a project will get off the ground and come true is very small. But imagining and dreaming about the future is a fun exercise! And who guarantees that out of mind-blowing concepts like this no brilliant solutions can come out? Check out the following infographic:

Insane, don't you think?
