Out to date and had a bad day: frog freezes in somersault

The freezing temperatures of winter in the Northern Hemisphere have provided amazing images that are streaming across the internet. Have you seen the stunning images of Chicago (United States) with its totally frozen landscape, the ice pick-up in Canada and other curious subjects, such as the boy who went to test what happens when you pee in supernegative temperatures.

Now, the image of the time was shot by a Norwegian with an incredible catch in a frozen Oslo lake. While skating on Lake Bindingsvann, photographer Svein Nordrum happened to encounter a frozen frog.

What struck Svein most, however, was the position the amphibian was in when it was brought to an end by the freeze: he was jumping and was taken by the ice, becoming a sculpture of nature.

The biologists who checked the picture believe that a sudden rise in temperatures fooled the hibernating frog and ventured across the lake to find a mate to mate with. However, as the temperature dropped sharply overnight, the lake froze. As a result, the amphibian would have returned to open field hibernation on ice and died from the cold.

"I was skating for a few hours and suddenly I saw something on the surface of the ice. When I saw it was a frog, hard and frozen, I was quite shocked. It was a sad thing to see, but at the same time it was very beautiful, ”said the photographer.

Silviu Perovan, conservation coordinator for Froglife in the United Kingdom, said: "It is quite common to see frogs crossing snow-covered areas. Some frogs hibernate in the water, but most hibernates on land near an area with water. There were probably a slightly warmer period that led the frog to become active for breeding. ”
