Scientists have yet to find larvae of these beetles, but they have already noticed that the forests in which these animals usually live have many trees with some suspicious holes. It is therefore believed that the giant beetle can feed on decaying wood.

Females have been little seen either, as they spend most of their lives hidden in strategic places, waiting for a male to fertilize their eggs. As a source of energy, these superboves usually use the reserves they accumulate before reaching adulthood, since during this period they do not feed. Their large jaws are used when they need to fend off predators, not to mention strong legs with sharp claws that can easily injure an enemy.

This weird and relatively creepy animal lives in some forests here in South America, especially in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and, to its delight, in some northern regions, here in Brazil. So what would you do if you accidentally bumped into one of these little animals?
