Giraffe dies after hitting head on road bridge

It looks like scene from the movie If Drinking Doesn't Case - Part 3, but unfortunately it actually happened. A giraffe died after hitting its head on a highway bridge near Pretoria, South Africa. The animal was being transported with one of its kind in a truck when the accident occurred.

"All we can see at this stage is serious head injury. We are continuing our investigation to eventually bring criminal charges against those responsible, " Rick Allan of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told Eye Witness. News from Johannesburg.

The giraffe owner confirmed to a local reporter that the animal had died. Several witnesses reported seeing two giraffes traveling on Pretoria's N1 freeway, sharing many tweets and animal pictures on Instagram.

Witness Reports

The Twitter user said in one of the posts: "Look how low this bridge is and how tall the giraffes are. Who did you think would pass by? I wish I hadn't seen that"

A witness wrote in his post "I saw two giraffes being transported to Pretoria on the road today. I don't know what the laws are, but as they were heading towards a normal highway bridge, I saw one of the giraffes hitting its head. It was so terrible to see. I hope she's fine. "

The post's author, Pabi Moloi, who also works on local radio and TV, was contacted by Mashable and said the incident will haunt her for a long time.

"My cousin and I were driving in Pretoria on a busy road when we saw two giraffes in the back of a truck. I pulled out my phone to take pictures of them, because it's not a very common thing to see in the city. While I was taking photos, the truck passed under a bridge and suddenly one of the giraffes hit her head hard on the concrete. The sound was so loud that my cousin, who was driving, asked me if anyone was filming, because she thought that I heard a gunshot! ”said Pabi Moloi.

Another witness posted: "I took this picture on N1 earlier. I just heard that a giraffe died! Apparently from head trauma! So sad!

She then posted her testimony quickly. By then Pabi did not know that the giraffe had died. Only had the distrust minutes later. “We saw in the rearview mirror that the truck had stopped. Only one giraffe was still standing. That sound of a skull being hit and the force with which the head was thrown is something I won't easily forget, "she said.

Movie Thing

Several Twitter users have also noted the similarities to a very similar scene seen in the movie If Drinking Don't Case, Part 3, in which the character of Zach Galifianakis accidentally beheaded a giraffe by doing much the same thing as the real-life giraffe owner. Only this time, it wasn't funny at all.

The giraffe owner said the animal had stretched its neck shortly before the accident, resulting in its death. "We have passed many other bridges, " he said.

Rick Allan of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the truck involved in the incident did not meet the specifications set by the South African Bureau of Standards and ignored the agency's transport codes for animals.

"When you are transporting giraffes on an open road, your head should be covered by a specially designed structure, " said Allan.
