What do crushes want in 2018? Find it out!
The Babbel language app and the Elite Singles dating site have just revealed the preferences of crushes in Brazil and around the world. The survey was conducted between December 2017 and January 2018, and was attended by 6, 000 users of both applications.
Anyone who put the "academy" in New Year's resolutions and forgot to add a "foreign language" can rethink the list. That's because Babbel & Elite Singles research has found that appearance is no more important than communication and language skills. Almost all people interviewed in Brazil (90%) say that a good conversation is worth more than the look - even when it comes to just one night (70%).
98% consider speaking other languages sexy
After the Christmas excesses, everyone wants to get fit for the summer. And while the Brazilian population is one of the most vain in the world, that seems to be set aside at the time of romance: 54% say it's the personality that counts. Second place goes to intelligence, with 28%. Appearance is only third, with 14%.
When it comes to personality and intelligence, the ability to communicate in other languages counts a lot: 98% of Brazilians consider speaking other languages sexy. Compared to other countries, only French and Canadians from Quebec do not see this as an extra point at the time of conquest. The global survey surveyed people in Brazil, the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Australia.
95% would learn a foreign language for love
Almost all Brazilians (95%) would learn another language for love. The result is well above the global average of 71%. The people least willing to face a foreign language out of love are English: only 40% would meet the challenge.
“In the globalized world we live in today, being able to communicate well is critical to gaining and establishing connections. So it is not surprising that the ability to speak other languages is such a prized quality in a partner, ”says Breno Pessoa, Babbel Latin America Manager.
“For this reason, we invested in a Didactic Team that has more than 150 specialists, creating courses on various topics, including feelings, personal relationships and family. The goal is for our users to develop linguistically in all aspects of their lives. And if it also means improving their love lives, even better! ”Says Breno.
In the search for crush, profile information on the web is very important - 80% read all personal data to get a good idea of the personality of the possible date. Once again, Brazil is above the global average of 57%.
Showing an interest in other cultures is a plus point, and 88% still say that information about foreign language skills and experiences abroad draws particular attention. Regarding the importance of interest in other cultures, Brazilians only lose to the Spanish: 88% x 95%, respectively.
Elite Singles spokeswoman Sophie Watson says "connection and communication are key to a first date, especially if you want a second." She further states that "this research proves what we and our members already knew: the most attractive part of the human body is the brain."
