Three-legged tortoise wins LEGO parts prosthesis

The little Schildi tortoise, which you see in the image above, has been through some difficult times. After being seriously injured by veterinarian Panagiotis Azmanis, the creature eventually had one of its amputated legs - which, for such an animal, means that it could no longer move at all.

Dr. Azmanis, however, brought a simple solution to help Schildi. With the help of a surgical glue and some LEGO pieces (these "borrowed" from his clinic manager's daughter's toy box), the German vet was able to attach a toy wheel to the turtle's bottom shell, according to The Local.

“First we fit a double wheel, but it was hard for her to make turns, so we replaced it with a single wheel, which is much better, ” said Azmanis. Although the tortoise was delivered to an animal shelter, the vet should continue to see Schildi quite often for check-ups. “If it ends up with a 'flat tire' it will be a simple matter of replacing the wheel. These animals move considerably, so I hope to see her on a new wheel around once a year, ”he said.
