It's fire: Get to know the Chinese treatment for flame-based underwear

In China you find everything. Over here you have seen the weirdness found in supermarkets, the new panda dog fashion, the fake things that didn't work out, and you found some intriguing facts about the country. Well, the new fad there is for fire-based underwear treatments. In them, patients relax quietly while the specialist sets their bodies on fire.

Generally, the technique is used in beauty treatments. According to Chang Li, 53, the technique “produces a kind of heat that flows straight into you and makes you completely relaxed [...] I do it myself three times a week, and when I get back to work, I'm entirely rested. ”The massage procedure consists of“ wrapping ”the client in an oil-filled blanket and then setting them on fire.

Hang Li, the manager responsible for the clinic in Beijing, says that although it looks suspicious, the treatment is very safe, just relax and enjoy the moment. “It may sound dangerous, but it's harmless when done the right way. In our clinic, we had no burn patients, ”he explains. In addition to this type of treatment, the beauty center also has acupuncture with burning needles.

The photo above was taken at a health clinic in Quanzhou, Fujian province. In it, you can see that the patient is very quiet, even with the intimate parts on fire. However, this is a variation of putting medicine on the body and covering the place with an alcohol-soaked towel. Then the area is set on fire for a while.

According to Chinese tradition, fire would create a warm environment, making medicines easily absorbed by the body. Besides being considered a good way to fight colds and flu, treating flames is also a great way to burn some calories.
