Do you know how fast a lava river can reach?

Kilauea, the iconic Hawaiian volcano, has been playing terror with new activity since early May - and we at Mega Curioso share a lot of stories here with interesting information about the eruptions. And to complement our selection of “volcanic” publications, we came across a video that is really amazing, especially for most of us, who don't have active volcanoes in our Brasilzão.

Scary show

According to Josie Rhodes Cook of Inverse, the images were captured on June 15 near Fissure 8 - one of the many cracks that opened on Big Island, the site most affected by the latest Kilauea eruption - and the speed with which the beautiful river of lava can be seen flowing is simply frightening. Watch below:

Don't you agree that the stunningly flowing and rolling lava river is a true spectacle of nature? For, according to Josie, geologists have estimated that this flow you have seen in the above images has come close to 30 kilometers per hour and, by way of comparison, a human reaches about 5 km / h when fast walking.

Basically, a distracted person strolling one of these incandescent streams would probably become a barbecue! Here's a compilation recently shared by the USGS, US Geological Survey, with images of the activity in Fissure 8:

By the way, monitoring of volcanic activity pointed out that the lava river has increased in speed - by about 3.2 kilometers - from previous eruptions. In addition, surveys have revealed that rising lava temperatures have caused an increase in eruption power, which in turn makes magma flow more fluid. So, dear reader, what did you think of the scenes?
