Bretagne, Rescue Dog on September 11th, Has Birthday [Video]

The Golden Retriever Bretagne recently turned 16 and, to celebrate the date, she and her owner / caregiver have had an unforgettable day in New York, including a limousine ride, a great hotel and a surprise birthday party. Although it may seem like an extremely exaggerated thing to a dog, there is a good reason for it.

Bretagne and its owner Denise Corliss were serving on the Texas Task Force 1, a search and rescue squad, when the attack on the World Trade Center twin towers occurred in September 2001. They were summoned, along with nearly 100 other dogs and their caregivers around the country to help rescue the victims of the tragedy and subsequently recover the bodies under the rubble.

That was their first mission. Today, the dog is the last of the animals employed on that day that is still alive, as far as it goes. So Laura Hartle of BarkPost decided to celebrate Bretagne's birthday in style as a way of thanking her for her efforts on the day of the terrorist attack.

In the video above, you can check out all the great day the golden retriever had on her birthday. Wherever she went, the dog was received with great joy, winning affection and thanks to the same extent.
