Get to know the world's first ball beach [video]

After so many years with the famous ball pools having the kids' party, the first "beach balls" is created (you can check out the top video). That's right, you're not crazy, no. The world's first ball beach is at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. The project is by Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen, two founding American architects of Snarkitecture (see description below).

The project called “The Beach” consists of about 1 million white balls made of recyclable plastic, mirrored over an area of almost 1, 000 square meters in the main hall of the museum. In addition to the area with the balls, there is a kind of "sand strip" about 15 meters long, without sand, but with sun beds and umbrellas, and a snack bar to serve the "bathers". Almost everything to recreate an environment a common beach can offer.

At the "horizon line" the ocean of small spheres takes on infinite proportions as it is surrounded by a wall of mirrors that really give it an endless ocean air. Not only the countless balls, but all items, including chairs, tents, and the bar, are white, giving the impression of an even larger ambience. The attraction is impressive and, from the images, seems to fulfill its purpose.

To relax, sun loungers by the "beach of balls"

The idea of creating “The Beach” was designed to encourage people to interact with their surroundings and others around them in a creative, fun and different way. And in this way, the attraction is thriving and catching the child and adult crowd, who, among other things, swim between the balls, dive and rest on inflatable buoys, just like on a normal beach. The site remains installed until September at the US National Building Museum.

"The Beach" (Ball) is fun for all ages

The Snarkitecture

Snarkitecture was created in 2008 by Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen to combine art and architecture in a collaborative practice. Basically, with the help of other artists and designers, the idea is to use already built spaces, with their own architectures, that can be misused or have no definite purpose, to provide different experiences and above expectations.

The group's name comes from Lewis Carroll's work, called "The Snark Hunt." According to the official website of Snarkitecture, the inspiration for the British author's poem came from history and an "unlikely team that makes an impossible journey to find an unimaginable creature."

"The Beach" is one of Snarkitecture's works and uses the Main Hall of the National Building Museum in the USA.

To achieve Snarkitecture's goals, architects make an analysis of the places or objects to be used, observing structure, material and programming. With the analysis done, the purpose is to verify how these elements can be integrated for a new and creative purpose of use.
