Oscar 2015: Can Marvel win his first statuette?

Despite all its success with the public and critics, Marvel has not yet gained recognition from the Academy. The technical and visual excellence of works such as Thor, Iron Man and The Avengers has not reversed into a studio statuette, but maybe Marvel Oscar time may be coming!

This year, the studio released two major productions that not only made a lot of money but also won the critics, which fell in love with the political thriller of Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier and the space adventure of Guardians of the Galaxy .

Guardians of the Galaxy represents Oscar's best chance for Marvel this year.

We are unlikely to see works of superheroes winning nominations in major categories such as best picture or directing, but there is a high chance of recognition of these films in the technical fields.

The dispute in the visual effects category

Since 2009, when it was bought by Disney, Marvel has received Oscar nominations in the visual effects category for the three Iron Man films and the Avengers feature, but has never won a victory.

In general, the Academy considers the quality, quantity, difficulty, originality and volume of work with visual effects to determine which ones are indicated and to define the victorious production of this category.

The performance capture technique coupled with visual effects make Planet of the Apes: The Clash one of the Oscar favorites in this category.

However, we do know that nominations in other categories and critical recognition can influence the Oscar's achievement of visual effects. Proof of this is that, historically, whenever a film is nominated for visual effects as well as a best film, the film ends up taking the technical category award - as if the nomination for the main award was a guarantee of production quality.

Only in recent years have films such as Gravity, The Adventures of Pi, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, The Origin, Avatar, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button proven this. So what is Marvel's chance to win an Oscar?

The 2014 Competitors

It seems, however, that few films this year are likely to win nominations in either the visual effects or best movie category. The only one with real possibility of entering the dispute in both categories is Interstellar, Christopher Nolan's space science fiction.

Other Oscar-winning visual effects films this year include: Planet of the Apes: The Confrontation, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Godzilla, Transformers: The Age of Extinction, and Malevolent .

The Academy is due to announce competitors of Guardians of the Galaxy soon in the Oscar fight for visual effects.

In the coming days, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is expected to announce the shortlist of titles that remain in contention. So let's find out if Guardians of the Galaxy are still in the fray over the visual effects statuette and which movies can get Marvel Oscars!
